Hey guys - we talked about this recently and here's what we came up with (b/t the three of us, we have a couple different opinions on some of them):
Best portrayal of a queer character in mainstream comics: Midnighter, Anole (New X-Men), Colussus (Ultimate X-men)

Best out queer creator: Phil Jimenez

Best near-queer creator: Jason Becker, Gail Simone

Best queer indie book: We suck, no good idea. But I didn't realize Shortpacked! fell into this category, so we'll second that, thanks Ben!

Best non-queer creator who draws awesome asses: Darick Robertson

Creator Who Looks Most Like they Would Have a Manly but Alluring Scent, Like the Smell of the Forest, or in the Case of Women, Like that of a Beautiful English Tea Garden: Gail Simone, Greg Rucka, Chuck Huston

Best Portrayal of a Queer Character in Mainstream Comics:
The first that comes to mind is Rene Montoya

Best Out Queer Creator:
Marc Andreyko for his Nightwing annual (and he's pretty)

Best Near-Queer Creator:
Grant Morrison of course, he does no wrong

Best Queer Indie Book:
I can't think of anything that came out in 07 that I'd nominate, how about The Best American Comics 2007

Best Non-Queer Artist Who Draws Awesome Asses:
Tony Harris, just cuz

Creator Who Looks Most Like they Would Have a Manly but Alluring Scent, Like the Smell of the Forest, or in the Case of Women, Like that of a Beautiful English Tea Garden:
Beau Smith, even though everything about him screams homophobe, he is one hot hairy man that I would love to smell and lick and touch and... oops, getting carried away! but the picture of him in that cowboy hat on his CBR blog mmmmmm

Anybody who is stumped for a Best Queer Indie book nomination can feel free to use me, and my Love Omnibus which came out six months ago!

Not that I'm trying to solicit nominations, or anything.

As for best near queer creator, I think we should make Alan Moore fight Grant Morrison and then give the award to whomever achieves TKO or Nirvana first.

PS: I smell like coffee. Is that manly?

Best Portrayal of a Queer Character in Mainstream Comics:
Christ, I don't know. I've been really out of touch with comics during the later half of last year....does Xavin count? If not, then I nominate Midnighter...

Best Out Queer Creator:
Marc Anrdeyko

Best Near-Queer Creator:
Gail Simone

Best Queer Indie Book:
Huh. It has to be queer-centric? I might have said something like Scott Pilgrim, but its probably more of a "Near Queer" indie book.

Best Non-Queer Artist Who Draws Awesome Asses:
Frank Cho

Creator Who Looks Most Like they Would Have a Manly but Alluring Scent, Like the Smell of the Forest, or in the Case of Women, Like that of a Beautiful English Tea Garden: Tony Harris...lol.

Best Portrayal of a Queer Character in Mainstream Comics
Todd Rice (Obsidian) (and Damon Matthews too) in Manhunter. Was that in '07?

Best Out Queer Creator
Marc Andreyko

Best Near-Queer Creator
Gail Simone

Best Queer Indie Book
Adrian Tomine's Optic Nerve: Not essentially a "gay" book, but it has some of the most honest and realistic (and not always flattering) gay characters that I've ever read. Check out the main character's lesbian best friend in the trade "Shortcomings." (edit) Also need to mention Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez for Love & Rockets Vol. II.

Best Non-Queer Artist Who Draws Awesome Asses
(edit) I'm changing my vote to Russ Braun -- for Jack in Jack of Fables.

Creator Who Looks Most Like they Would Have a Manly but Alluring Scent, Like the Smell of the Forest, or in the Case of Women, Like that of a Beautiful English Tea Garden
I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- I love me some Paul Pope. Ted McKeever seems like he might smell like a bar of Irish Spring as well. As for the ladies....I dunno. Jill Thompson?

Best Portrayal of a Queer Character in Mainstream Comics
Anole, from the New X-Men -- written by Kyle and Yost, pencils by Skottie Young. Perfectly presented in that coming out stage where he's not really saying yes, but he's not saying no either, and all his friends know anyway. I hope to gods someone good picks this character up, in all the X-shuffle they're doing at Marvel.

Best Out Queer Creator
Marc Andreyko. Still waiting for Manhunter to come back, but damn that was a good book.

Best Near-Queer Creator
Brian K Vaughn for Midnighter #7. The best issue of the series so far, brilliant in and of itself, and the best Midnighter and Apollo's relationship has been shown since they were created.

Best Queer Indie Book
Yes, Love Omnibus, and not just because Matt suggested it. Funny, whimsical, warm, and a great relationship book. Well worth reading.

Best Non-Queer Artist Who Draws Awesome Asses
Skottie Young. Not because they were all teen asses, but because his mutants looked like real mutants, not hypertrophied spandex models. As an L.A. resident, I'll take real asses over the fake kind any day.

Creator Who Looks Most Like they Would Have a Manly but Alluring Scent, Like the Smell of the Forest, or in the Case of Women, Like that of a Beautiful English Tea Garden
David Mack. For the ladies, the only person I can think of who should smell like a Beautiful English Tea Garden is Emma Thompson. Ok, she doesn't do comics, but that's all I've got.

Did you hear Skottie say on Around Comics that he's writing and drawing an Anole one-shot?
